Driving down the familiar streets of town, the heaviness of life weighed upon me. Family members and dear friends battling cancer, my own body battling swelling and inflammation caused by pollin, buds and beauty of Spring and so many other frustrations putting pressure on my mind. I heard the Lord speak to my heart, “Take my yoke upon you”. I know the verse. I know it well but I can’t bear another thing God. I can’t hold it up. I’m gonna break.
I got home and settled into my fluffy chair and opened His word. Tears in eyes, “God, show me what you mean when you say, ‘take my yoke upon you.'”
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. And you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
These, from the Hebrew words, awoke my soul.
Come! Come now, to Me! All of you who are fatigued, weary, tired and exhausted by toils and burdens of grief. You who are loaded up and overburdened, I will cause you to cease from any movement or labor in order to recover and collect strength. I will give you quiet, calm and patient expectation.
Take it up, bear up my yoke. Join with me. Balance the yoke with me and learn, increase your knowledge while we walk together. I am gentle, mild, meek and humble of heart and you, YOU SHALL MEET WITH REST. You shall find and discover intermission, recreation and rest. You will find rest for your phyche. You will find rest to slow your breathing and bring calm. Rest. Connecting with me in my yoke is easy, useful and good and the load is light. You are no longer burdened. You are free.
There is still a rest for God’s people, a rest since the beginning of creation and a rest to renew our spirit. We aren’t hamsters in a running wheel with no break in sight. Our Father knows our weaknesses. He went before us and can fully sympathize with us. He says,”Come”. We can crawl on all fours or stand up with our boot straps attached high and we can approach the throne of grace with confidence. He calls you and I to come to Him so that He can attach to us and walk this life fully aware, fully freeing you from your own burden. His yoke is easy and light. And He will teach you the way.
What does that mean for you today?
Where do you need to let go and let God?
He promises peace in the very core of you, your mind, your seat of emotions-YOU.
Dear Father, thank you that You are a God of humility, love and compassion. You know the trials we face and you graciously call us to yourself. Help us to let go of our burdens and allow You to lead us and give us rest. You alone bring us freedom. Thank you Father for being so good to us.
